Maemo Community
It is an open source community developing software around the Maemo platform. The Maemo community has over 18.000 registered members that contribute to more than 600 development projects. We work with open source tools and processes. We develop new software for both the platform itself and on top of the platform. Applications developed with the Maemo SDK are used today by thousands of consumers. Maemo is a software platform that is mostly based on open source code and powers mobile devices such as the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet. Maemo platform has been developed by Nokia in collaboration with many open source projects such as the Linux kernel , Debian , GNOME , and many more.

Maemo is a computer architecture platform built using open source Linux components. Maemo is one of Nokia’s core handset platforms characterized by high performance, new cool UI principles and Internet philosophy.
The platform is based on the familiar desktop Linux – today known by a wide-ranging group of programmers globally. The multiple well-known programming options, the amazing set of software and hardware capabilities, and easy means to distribute software make Maemo a fun environment to innovate on.
Together with Symbian, Maemo forms important basis for the future of Nokia Nseries handset range. Nokia Nseries today has today sold annually tens of millions of devices globally for an active segment of consumers. They are the first to try the new features and services already from the beta stage and adopt the best innovations into their everyday life.
Maemo, first introduced in 2005 on Nokia’s Internet Tablet concept, stems from the ambition to bring PC-like user behaviour, including multitasking, browsing and communications to mobile devices.

Complementing the main SDK tools on familiar GNOME desktop technologies, the Nokia’s Qt framework and other cross platform programming will provide developers easy portability across other mobile and desktop platforms. Maemo enables developers to utilize multiple software technology environments for optimal solution creation.
